Re: Question on Safety Net

Today's question deals with the "Safety Net." Many people in
our discussion have stated their desire to provide a safety net
for the low-income elderly. How important do you think this
is, and how should such provisions be implemented?
*****************************************************************

By and large it is a national disgrace how we treat the elderly in our
country. Certainly we should be providing a safety net for the low income
elderly but are tending to think that in these so called times of economic
prosperity that these people are few a far between. However, what I see is
that the few who are lavishly prosperous are clouding our thoughts when
there is a very large core of elderly who benefit and need the safety net of
social security.

My basic feeling is that many of these plans that have been proposed are
just ways for the outlandishly prosperous to weasal out of helping their
poorer neighbors..

Social Security in a sense is one of the few ways we can reward those who
actually did the work to make this a great country rather than just the few
who made their millions off the sweaty brows of others.

This implementation should be inclusive rather than exclusive and much
broader rather than narrow in scope.

Sincerely,
Currie Morrison
