My job is Director of Adult Education for a program of over 36,000 students.

Access is a critical issue for Adult Continuing Education. Although all communities have K-12 schools, not all communities have Adult Continuing Education programs. K-12 education is mandated to serve all children. This is not so for adults.

Many communities have adult education programs but the "CAP" imposed by the state limits enrollment. Several years ago our program exceeded the CAP by about 900 units of average daily attendance. This translated to about 6,000 individuals for whom we received no funding. Since that time our community has experienced rapid growth. We have had to limit course offerings to stay within the CAP and to maintain solvency.

The Master Plan should address the issue of access for all adults to Adult Continuing Education programs.
