We in adult education have a saying which really describes our challenge and that is "adult students vote with their feet".
Adult programs have to be pragmatic and flexbile, have to meet needs of the community, and to be accessible or their adult students will quickly leave and move to some other program. This may mean Saturday or evening classes, distance learning, classes in a wide variety of locations- whatever it takes to help the adult student get the class to meet his/her needs. We are indeed the 7-11 and it is time for adult education to stop being "the best kept secret" of education. Adults throughout the state have been able to acquire akills to help them get a better job, learn parenting skills, get a high school diploma- thanks to Adult Ed.
