  • Topic: Emerging Modes

Schools of the 21st Century should be accessible to everone. Curriculum should be open entry/open exit, competency-based.
There should be many options available to accomodate varied learning styles and varied personal schedules. There should be opportunities for students to learn on site, off site and on line. Schools should be infused with modern technology. They should have strong links to local government, local agencies, and businesses from near and far.

Students should be able to acquire multiple languages. They should be able to train for their first jobs or, if they change jobs, use the school as a trampoline to bounce back into the economy at a point near where they left.

National City Adult School does all this in a community with one of the lowest per capita incomes in the nation.
