RE: Adult Education
Introduction: I am the ESL Coordinator/ Vice Principal of an Adult School. I have worked in Adult Ed. for 15 years. I agree with the point of view on the flexibility and availability of Adult Education programs in our state. California currently serves almost 2 million adults each year through K-12 Adult Education programs. Many of these programs are available in communities where there is no Community College presence. One of the continuous threads in yesterday's discussion of educational quality had to do with the education of parents (adults) who needed to know how to provide a rich environment for their preschoolers. Statistically, we know that childrens' academic success is directly correlated to their parents' educational level. Where will the parents of California go to learn about these issues, and issues regarding choice in their childrens' education if access to Adult Education is restricted? The Master Plan does not highlight the services of adult education, but, as we seek to educate our state's youth, and we acknowledge that parental involvement is key, who will educate the parents? |
