Tom,
This is the primary objective of the American Library
Association's Libraries Build Sustainable Communities - having
our libraries serve as one of the major decision-making tools
for our communities as they deal with the issues of sustainable
growth. Economy, Ecology, and Equity comprise the "three-legged
stool" of sustainable communities. Getting our libraries
recognized as MUCH MORE THAN A REPOSITORY OF BOOKS AND JOURNALS
is what is called for.
