Day 1 with the EPA

Greetings! Information about this dialog was posted to the NYLINE listserv and that is how I learned about it. I immediately signed on and encouraged the principal participants in a Federally funded Library Services and Technology Act project that I am the project director for, to sign on. I am thrilled that in the final two-week period of our two-year project there will be this unexpected opportunity to share some of our results and learn about what others are doing. This dialog leaves open the possibility for future partnerships and that, indeed, is an exciting concept!

So, allow me to briefly introduce myself: I am Rebekah Tanner, Adult & Electronic Services Specialist at the Mohawk Valley Library Association, in Schenectady, NY. MVLA is one of NY's 23 public library systems. We serve the libraries in the 4 counties due west of NY's capital district: Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady & Schoharie. We have 14 members, most located in small cities or rural areas with the exception of Schenectady County Public Library which serves as the system's Central Library & has its own 9 branches, several of which are urban, several suburban and one rural.

With LSTA funding we have been working to bring quality information about sustainable agriculture to the farmers in our region. We have had 8 sites participate in this, the second year, of the project. In the first year two sites in western Montgomery county participated in a pilot year.

I could go on & on but invite you instead to take a look at what we have posted to the Web: "Resources for Economic Viability in Sustainable Agriculture" at http://www.mvla.org/revsa/ (this is one of the resources listed in the Briefing Book). You will hear from me again --

Walk in Peace!
Rebekah
