  • X-topic: Introductions

Hello, my name is Devon Mattys, and I am a senior at the Governor's School in Richmond, Virginia. A good deal of my classmates are also participating in the dialogue, as asked by our teacher. Regarding Campaign Finance Reform, I don't know yet how much can or should be done, but I know that I personally would feel more comfortable with caps on lobbyist gifts and donations to political candidates and causes. However, a couple of things that my parents mentioned to me when I shared this point of view were 1) how do you really differentiate between lobby groups and simple corporations with ulterior motives, and 2) how do you limit funding without infringing on First Amendment rights?

Although I have my own answers to those questions, I hope to see them further addressed over the course of this discussion.
