I feel, in general, disillusioned with today's politics. One reason I feel this way stems from the fact that many people runnning for office are millionaires whose political goals are often dictated by those corporations and/or individuals who sponsored the poitical campaigns. The issue at hand is this: too many politicians are being pushed by contributors to vote not as representatives of a truly diverse constituency, but as representatives of monied interests who just happened to make donations to political campaigns. The democratic ideal that each person has the right to run for political office has been tarnished by the fact that those who can run, do so only because they are wealthy either personally or from corporate donors. This leaves the average American out in the cold, since s/he does not have the money or the connections needed to be elected. This, for me, has made the political world corrupt and uninspiring, since there is little diversity interest-wise, and the most important aspect of one's campaign is from whom the donations are being received. I strongly support the McCain-Feingold Bill, and hope that, if it is passed, it will help make the American political process democratic again.
