Greetings. I work for Sunflower Community Action, which does grassroots organizing work in Wichita, Kansas and other cities. Sunflower is using an EPA Economic Justice grant to gather information about the extent of lead poisoning in Wichita's low-income neighborhoods. Lead poisoning became an issue for us when one of our neighborhood leader's children was found to have a high blood lead level.

Empowerment of low-income people is the mission of community organizing groups like Sunflower, and I am pleased that the EPA recognized, at least in our case, that grassroots groups represent an important means of identifying and addressing the concerns of low-income people.
