I would like to second Linda's very valuable observation. "Productive" should not be only defined as employable. Important as employment is, there is a danger of using limited reductionist language in the Master Plan that will not serve us in the years to come. We want to teach our students to think, to reason--yes, even to question and challenge when needed--in order for them to be intelligent and active citizens in a democracy. Additionally, we have no way of knowing for certain what the jobs and technologies of the future will be. It is important to avoid excessively narrow vocational training, even for our non-college-bound students.
