I like what Senator Vasconcellos is suggesting about exploring new forms of collaborative governance for teachers. Much as I support unions, I don't think collective bargaining is an appropriate vehicle for curriculum planning or textbook selection. I suggest also looking into the Academic Senate model of faculty involvement in the governance at universities.
