Dear Paula Walters,
Your complaints are based on two anecdotes and not on an overall view
of how well the system is working. You did not give sufficient detail to
judge the validity of either case. If the first case you cite is a disabled
person, his disability is periodically reviewed. The second case sounds like
a wealthy retiree. The present system pays benefits to wealthy persons who
have paid SS taxes regardless of their wealth. Lower income retirees receive
benefits proportionately larger in relation to their active wages.
You can discuss any complaints with your Congressmen and Social
Security employees. The present system can only be changed by laws passed by
Congress.
