RE: SS Reform should evaluate impact on other programs

>From Lisa Furia

Lisa, I think it is essential that we reform them independently. They are related to one another, but the 'benefits' in the two systems are fundamentally different: money to live on vs. medical insurance.

SS reform on its own is a 'monster'. Indeed, just look at the many different opinions on this forum. Privatizing SS at least has the individual's incentive to fund their own retirement.

With medical costs, an amazing percentage of such occurs in the last year or even month of life. How many will want to forgo consumer spending today for medical care in their last month? 'Just let me go when it's my time' may be their attitude. But who knows when their last month will be, or what to do with some elderly person who has no insurance to take care of their medical problems?

I think tackling each reform independently is the practical road to take.
