Doris,
Very glad to hear the news about groups who monitor funding. Outside of the LWV in Michigan, the information is harder to come by here. That it goes on-line is helpful, too. However there are many folks in Michigan who do not have on-line access (strange as that may seem in the year 2001).
It doesn't seem all that easy to have the information printed in the local papers. Here at least the newspapers print their comments to the issue ads about the "truth" of them. Yet who funds what doesn't seem to make it to the paper.
So, perhaps that is a way to start. Encourage/require the press to print the top dollar contributors to each candidate/issue so the voters have some clue as to the biases each brings.
