Denise,

This may be premature; the Senate has not yet passed McCain-Feingold. However, today's movements are encouraging. The non-serverability admendment was defeated, hence if any portion of the bill is deemed unconstitutional the rest of the bill remains. In the bill is exactly what many of us are looking for - eliminating soft money. It is not a perfect solution, and I fear that should this bill pass, the inference might be we've got the problem sewn up.

It sounds like the outstanding issues of how to manage campaign ads remains and there seems to be some desire to continue this discussion beyond this current debate.

You are correct about how disruptive big money is in campaigns. If we, as participants in this forum, do not see this happening in the final version of s.27 are we willing to continue pushing for this?

Joan
