It seems to me that while we are talking about money, regulation of money, and disclosure of who is spending, much of the issue really is about communication. There always will be the issue that "my lobby" is good while "their lobby" is crooked and trying to buy votes. Still, we all want to influence our legislators whether it's a phone call from us as an individual or a contribution to a PAC or a corporate contribution. I don't think that can be regulated and I'm not sure it should be. I do think disclosure is healthy but those records have really been available for years. What we need to do is make available to people who will read it both the contributions and the voting stance of legislators. If I can digress I'd also say that our FCC regulated broadcast media should contribute free time to candidates too.
