Jay,

I disagree with your position that the newspapers ought to behave like Sierra Club or other special interests. Newspapers do not make monetary contributions to candidates and then produce ads or editorials in favor of their candidate of choice. It isn't difficult to determine the biases of newspapers and they are upfront with who they are. Often special interest ads are not clear at all who supplies the money. They hide behind labels like "Citizens for ".

If the Special interests wish to take out ads in the paper, then they ought to be able to do that, but not contribute large sums of money to candidates such as MBMN did for George W. It is no surprise to me the Bankruptcy bill got such quick action.
