This view is growing increasingly popular in today's political arena of scandal and corruption. It sounds pessimistic, but money is power in our society, despite whatever democratic ideals may be espoused. To be sure, presidents, members of Congress, and other political leaders have been faced with more demands for disclosure in recent years that such leaders have not had to deal with previously. However, secrets still keep the public ignorant of their elected officials' dealings, especially regarding financing in elections. Therefore, I support this choice, with reservations (so that the system does not corrupt itself or create even more conflict, at least).
