My radio station broadcasts air quality statistics (e.g. ozone code red) in the morning, with advice about burning wood stoves and driving less, etc. I think this is a good way of getting the information out, but I doubt it changes people's behavior significantly. So just getting the information out is only the first step. Likewise, if people are informed that they live in an area of high exposure to carcinogens just getting them the information isn't enough.

Information should be accompanied by an invitation to somehow participate in the solution.
