Steve Taylor makes some excellent points.

Accountability should be universal. Like a 12-step program, the first step is the admission of a problem.

While corporate pollutors are quick to cover their tracks, they should be the first to admit past wrongs. The EPA, through long-range planning in remediation, should be accountable to inform the public (to prevent harm to health). Right now there is a hidden feeling that they "don't want to incite panic."

In Marion, Ohio, for instance, the fact that an elementary school was built on an old government waste site was kept under wraps long enough to affect the health of the children. Too much "wait and see" attitude.
