I thank the members of the Master Plan committee for their time and effort of creating this extensive document. Correct me if I am wrong, but I did not see the issues of Learning Disablities addressed except very lightly in the "Assessment of Student Learning Needs" section. It is imperative that we do not allow the "pattern of continued academic frustration" to begin for our many dyslexic students. We must provide funding for: 1.Early assessment in Kindergarten, 2. Early remediation using a systematic, multi-sensory method of teaching phonemic awareness by a Orton-Gillingham or Lindamood-Bell trained professionals, and 3. Offer tools such as typing programs, Franklin spellers, and books on tape. We must train staff to encourage classroom accommodations such as untimed tests, dictated homework, and grade on content not spelling, etc. Please help our dyslexic children find their own brilliant skills by addressing their needs with real programs, real funding, and real solutions. See Charles Schwab's web page for more information.Thank you for your time.
