  • Topic: Facilities & Finance

It is important as we look at the funding model that we look at the Higher Education system. Nationwide right now there is a large amount of debt transferance on to the students in higher education. The CSU while having its funding increased graduallly over time is still not able to fully cover the cost of education. From a former students perspective, the highest cost of the CSU is housing and living expenses. If more investment were made to guarantee a shorter time to degree the cost for non-academic items, counseling, health services, advising would be reduced.

We need to make funding of education reflect the actual costs of all of education not, just the ones that people can see those in the classroom.

As to Quality education, it will cost more, education is an investment not a service of the state. Think about the impact an educated populace(silicon valley) has on the economic well being of the state.

The CSU's mission is accees, afordability, and quality. So often we talk about access and hurt the quality. We need to be more realistic in our funding.
