One reason that schools do not have enough money to provide a quality education for students is that the money they do have is not spent on students. Once the money reaches the district level, it is spent on what the district administration chooses to spend it on. At the 9-12 level, job openings for teachers receive perhaps 2 or 3 applicants - many times all applicants are not highly qualified. Job openings for administrators, however, have 10 - 20 applicants. Do you wonder why? Perhaps double the salary, better medical benefits including after retirement, a district car, a credit card for school business, could be the reason. Does your school administration hold their pre-year meeting in district buildings or do they hold their meeting at Asilomar? The district office in my district is air-conditioned, has beautiful carpets and desks, a marvelous lunch room, and full-time custodians. My room gets swept twice a week, gets over 95 degrees in Sept and June, has ceiling tiles missing, electrical wiring that doesn't work, and I usually have several students who do not have a chair. They actually have to stand or sit on the floor during class. School districts can not be allowed to have royalty and serfs - administration cannot be allowed to steal the money from the students.
