Joe Goetz suggests that more attention be paid to those who are not going "to college," and states that one-third of high school students do so. While I agree with him that more attention needs be paid to those who are not in the full baccalaureate degree track in high school, the facts are not as he states.
A far higher percentage of high school students in California "go to college" at some point, if not immediately after high school. Almost 80% attend some kind of postsecondary institution (including proprietary schools) within four years of hs graduation, and slightly less than 60% in California do go to some kind of degree granting institution soon after graduating from hs or receiving a GED.
