  • Topic: Personnel Development

There are tangible incentives to attract and retain good teachers, but more important are the intangible incentives. Tangible incentives are:decent pay allowing teachers to live in their communities, continuing education offered, aides, prep periods, principals and administrations who support and know the classrooms, parents who team with teachers for their children's learning. The intangibles are community support, recognition, supportive team staff, teachers and administration who are in their jobs because they love children. It would be hoped that the intangibles would follow if tangible benefits were present. Somehow we need to return to the belief that children want to learn given the environment to do so.
