Technology training for teachers
Teachers have received the blame for not applying technology in an appropriate fashion in their classrooms. Is this justified on the part of the public, school administration, or the state? A national survey conducted several years ago found that less than 10% of the teacher prep. program professors felt confident in demonstrating the application of technology in their subject areas. The Federal Gov., State Dept. of Education, released millions of dollars to training institutions to train the professors in the use of technology. What has been the result of that taxpayer investment? Are the new teachers reflecting this investment in their teacher trainers? How can we insure that schools, both at the k-12level and at the University training level can and will continue to provide access to current technology and the training to use it in the classroom? If the public schools are to prepare tomorrow's citizens to meet the intellectual and work demands that will be made upon them, then what safeguards can be put in place that will insure that the state that put personal computers into the hands of the world will keep up with those changing demands in our public schools? |
