As a scientist who has gone into education I found this discussion very interesting. I do have problems with the CD based solution to science education, however. All sciences should give students a chance to perform and design experiments. The teacher supervising this must be knowledgeable about safe laboratory practices.

Better ways to help supplement the training of scientists and mathematicians for the classroom environment are needed! The long and frustrating process does creater barriers. Still, people who retrain do need to know about and practice best classroom practices, understand student mentality, and learn about the kinds of experiments and demonstrations that are practical to do in the classroom.
