There is a technical omission to the description of today's discussion that needs addressing. "ADULT EDUCATION" must be listed and included within the description "K-12, Community College, and University" instructional communities.

Specifically:
In the Staff Analysis of the Professional Personnel Development, http://www.info-ren.org/network-democracy/camp/bb/topics/ppd/analysis.shtml under the heading "Postsecondary Professional Personnel Development Recommendations", the following statement:
"10. Increase the capability of California colleges and universities to attract and hire qualified faculty members", "ADULT EDUCATION" is blatantly omitted.

We "ADULT EDUCATION" professional educators are very concerned about the governor's budget proposal that "ADULT EDUCATION" be absorbed into the "community college" system. The Master Plan in all its areas of proposal must include ADULT EDUCATION" to assure our local communities that they will continue to receive services days, afternoons, and evenings in our local school sites from qualified adult educators.

Those of us who have committed our careers to full time "ADULT EDUCATION", serve the neediest of populations as was aptly discussed yesterday. Concurrent high school students attend adult education classrooms statewide making up failed high school courses. Adults attend classes statewide learning ESL, parenting, basic education, GED and high school diploma, as well as job training through a wide variety of vocational courses taught at job preparation centers (occupational centers). Our students would be intimidated by the CC, and would probably become part of the statistics of first year college dropouts being unprepared for the level of reading and math required for success at the CC. However, after completing our academic high school diploma program, confident and now properly prepared our "adult high school graduates" are encouraged to attend, and many do transfer to, the community colleges.
