RE: Personnel Development

Mr. Miller is right.  May I offer one suggestion?  Professional 
development can be incorporated into the job itself.  The 
Japanese model of "lesson study" is one example.  Along 
with that, National Board certification is another powerful 
tool for professional development.  It was the single most 
meaningful professional development experience for me.  It 
launched me in directions I never anticipated.  Since 
becoming a NBC teacher I have had numerous 
opportunities to grow personally and, best of all, to help 
effect positive reform at various levels (local to national).
