We should keep in mind that private industry provides training incentives and allows time for employees to learn. How about another structure where 2 teachers share a class and take half time to allow time for training and development? Are there other ways of getting time to get training. I am not sure a 1 to 2 year sabbatical with pay is reasonable but if a teacher made more money in the first place and grants to pay for the classes themselves were available it might change the equation.

We place our most prized creation in the hands of teachers for 6 hours a day and then pay them less than most other jobs in the state. It is our responsibility to pay what it is worth, provide training to keep them current and set reasonable standards for performance.
