  • Topic: Emerging Modes

Building off of yesterday's dialogue and the tenet that all humans arrive in this world, "wired to learn," absolutely everything we do with regard to "teaching" and/or "learning" must be redesigned toward inspiring the learning instinct of each student, so as to empower her/him to realize their innate potential and inclination toward becoming a self-initiating, self-sustaining learner for life.

Research now demonstrates that each of us human beings is wonderfully unique, with distinct identities, genders, races, intelligence's and learning styles. It is the moral responsibility of each public school to recognize, appreciate and effectively engage each student's uniqueness. In other words to fit the institution to the child so as to maximize her/his capacity for learning - rather than to seek (awfully) to tailor and fit the child to the institution.

Today, I welcome all input on these crucial elements. Through the topic of emerging modes, how can we build upon our tenet that every approach to education necessarily depends upon the foundation of our belief regarding (1) the nature of the student (be it child or adult) and (2) his/her pre/disposition toward learning -- that every human arrives 'wired for learning'? How do we incorporate the research on Multiple Intelligence into this plan to ensure that every classroom seeks out the learner and his/her learning needs?

I look forward to another day of lively exchange!
