Reading the message about ART missing from the curriculum reminded me of so much that has dissappeared from the curriculum of the students with the greatest needs. I would hope you would still find a balanced curriculum in some schools, but the schools I work with that are underperforming schools have narrowed their curriculum drastically. (The narrowed curriculum was in response to being underperforming as determined by the STAR testing, not a cause)

When a district or principal directs teachers to spend 3.5 hours a day on literacy, and an hour for math, little time is left for science, social studies, arts performing and visual, and humanity. Now that science may be tested in 5th grade, at least science will come back to 5th grade and maybe even 4th grade.

If the schools are turning out students who are overweight and under-exercised, and who make unhealthy life decisions that then impact everyone...we need to bring health back into the curriculum.
