Re: Question on Charity



1. No, I think the redistributive function of the present system
is appropriate.

2. In an ideal world, people should be responsible for their own
financial security. In the real world this is not the case, and
not just because those in the situation are irresponsible. What we
have now is - and never was meant to be more - a minimal support
program.

3.The plans that expect charities to pick up the slack underestimate
the willingness of people to give from meager resources. And the
very very rich have little interest in returning a decent portion
of their wealth to society for redistribution.  Republican/conservative
Democrat plans are at bottom simply heartless and inhumane.
