1. Eliminate the cap on employee contributions.
2. Doing so would help handle the safety net
question---and help postpone inadequate
trust fund balances .
3. A diminished sense of urgency about
social security would allow more attention
to be paid to a far more critical problem:
Medicare.
4. I still think there is place for some manner
of individual control in social security, be it
savivgs, annuities, stocks, et al.
5. Ideally, in the long term, the currnt social
security system would be replaced with
a system which encouraged and rewarded
those who provide for their old age while
keeping a safety net for the poor, probably
in a consolidated wlefare program.
