I would say that describing the Cato institute as 'open-minded'
must be done with tongue firmly implanted in cheek.
Much of the information they distribute is extremely misleading in
regards to the current SS system and the advantages of their plan
over it. For example, the calculator at their web-site neglects
to consider 'spousal benefits'. They frequently use 'single'
persons in their 'examples' to avoid that very issue.
CATO is strongly pro SS Privatization. Nothing wrong with that.
They even have some good ideas. They do not qualify as open-minded
or 'impartial' in the discussion. Take what you hear from them
with a grain of salt. Read the examples critically. Inform yourself
from many other sources as well.
They are not telling 'falsehoods', but are definitely 'managing'
the statistics to show their plan in a good light.
