Joe Blazenski,
You make an excellent point that stock investments can be risky IF
you do this:

1) invest in speculative stocks in the hope of making big gains;
2) rely on incomplete information;
3) buy and sell emotionally;

If on the other hand you invest by:

1) investing in S&P 500 indexed mutual funds;
2) using the dollar coast averaging technique
3) investing for the long term (20-30 years);
4) taking advantage of the tax sheltered devices: IRA,401(k) etc

you will be successful.
