There are any number of other agencies and groups EPA should be
collaborating with in order to disseminate information. The
National Library of Medicine's Toxicology and Environmental Health
Information Program, for one, where I work, has provided online
access to EPA's TRI and IRIS for many years, beginning in pre-Web
days. The non-regulatory National Council for Science and the
Environment (NCSE)[formerly CNIE] focuses on improving the
scientific basis for environmental decisionmaking and hosts
an outstanding web site (http://www.cnie.org). In fact they are
holding the inaugural National Conference on Science, Policy,
and the Environment on December 7-8, 2000 at the National Academy
of Sciences in Washington, DC. The conference may be of interest
to many of the participants in this online dialog. Among the 14
breakout sessions are those on information systems and public
education.
