Terry,
I like this idea of linking libraries and gove't information
providers with people at the "neighborhood level" for those who
lack access to the Internet. Have you more ideas on how to
implement such a proposal? How would you combine it with the
other thought that pau ORum -- among others -- suggested re:
providing computers to those without access?
There is the Executive Order (EO) that presses for putting surplus gov't
computers in libraries and schools. But there does not appear
to be a cross gov't effort to implement the EO. AND there are problems
with licensing, software, tranporting to those who need them, etc.
Still the idea intrigues me -- especially iof taken another step,
to working with non profits and community service outlets that may
be -- like libraries -- in the neighborhoods. pat
