Lobbying is not the problem, per se. Having an organized, persistent, focused effort the pass legislation is not innately evil. Lobbying crosses the line, however, when lobbyists elbow their way into line by buying influence with big money donations to campaigns. At that point it is no longer a case of Joe Citizen standing in line next to Jane Lobbyist to see Senator Doe, each taking their best shot at persuasion. Instead it becomes a matter of Joe Citizen standing across the street sending smoke signals to Senator Doe (on a very windy day) while Jane Lobbyist is actually in the senator's office signing a check to his campaign fund.
