Michael, a most interesting "thoght"...there are trade-offs that are implicit in your "thought"and in many of the earlier comments. And I suspect you are right that restricting one thing can often create more feeedom in another. Your "thought" requires that we keep several "rights" in mind at the same time, and also balance private and public goods....

I suspect that there are no "absolute" rights in our constitution.... not even the "inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Indeed, even that list is not mutually consistent... for example, the pursuit of happiness may pose "threats" to our health and, therefore, our life....
