I think your example shows the inextricable mess that money has caused in politics today. It's true that this is a problem, and many politicians have attempted to acknowledge this. But there is nothing to be done about things like soft money unless it applies to all races/elections. As I read in an article by Sen. Zell Miller, he disagrees with the raising soft money, but in his recent election, he was almost forced to take money from interest groups, etc., because his opponent would be getting the money anyway. It is necessary to apply money raising issues in a legislative act, because although some men/women would restrict themselves voluntarily, they would be sure to lose the media war... and most likely the election. ~Cari,17
