  • X-topic: Local Issues/Superfund

Welcome to the eighth day of the National Dialogue on Public
Involvement in EPA Decisions. Today's topic deals with the
Superfund, Local Environmental Partnerships and Risk Communication.
The first two issues focus on environmental problems at the
local level; the third involves EPA's activities at both the
local and national levels.

There are many environmental issues which are affected by
local planning and decision-making. Today's discussion
deals with such issues and with the role EPA can play in this
area. Additionally, the discussion will address the broader
issue of risk communication and how EPA can best communicate
such information to the public.

Areas on which you might focus in today's discussion include:
  * Superfund sites-involving the public
  * EPA as a facilitator for local problems
  * Improving risk communication
  * Involving stakeholders/partners in risk communication

Today's host is EPA Region 5. Our panelists are Mark Breederland,
Jerry Filbin, Emily Green and Suzanne Wells.

For more detail on today's topic, hosts and panelists, please
consult the agenda:

Please keep in mind that this Dialogue is not part of the formal
comment process on EPA's December 28, 2000 draft Public Involvement
Policy. Should you wish to submit formal comments on the policy,
you may send them to the EPA at
     stakeholders@epa.gov
We hope that your participation in the Dialogue will be useful in
helping you to provide more informed and focused formal comments
on the policy.
