It's good that Charles Franklin answered the public comments here about CCA wood. That's the first time for this discussion that someone from the EPA has responded substantively on a specific issue.

Having said that, I should also say that I think that EPA's response to this issue will prove inadequate; warning people that the product they use is toxic does not substitute for restricting uses of toxic products. People should not need to be warned about CCA wood for almost all of these applications, because CCA wood should not be allowed for use in those applications.

I'd also like to ask again about pentachlorophenol in wood preserving. The last EPA review of this substance started in 1978 and new regs were written in 1986. Sicne then, we've found out that the pentachlorophenol production process is the single largest producer of dioxin-like substances in the country. What is being done about this?
