  • X-topic: Information

Reva Fabrikant writes (along with some other quite interesting suggestions): "LANGUAGE- It does no good to distribute information that is written in a technical, boring, complicated fashion."

For me, that brings to mind the saying attributed to Einstein: "Everything should be as simple as possible. But no simpler."
Environmental problems are hard, and there is in fact a limit to how much "simple, clear writing" can help someone understand these problems if they have no clue how science works.

Visuals can be a great help. The good folks in Ada, Oklahoma have put together some pretty clear subsurface contamination fact sheets. Yes, they're still pretty technical, but the nice color graphic at

helps me to visualize how chlorinated solvents spread. Browse the Ada site (http://www.epa.gov/ada) for other nice products.
