  • X-topic: Outreach

I would like to add that schools are a tremendous outlet for public involvement outreach and education. Even if it is not as hands-on as Carol's example, educational programs in school often make it home for discussion with parents.

Also, if kids get excited about a topic, parents may approach the topic with a more positive, open-minded attitude, willing to learn with their children. They may also track the progress of a particular project with their children.

Further, children encouraged to learn and participate in EPA processes can establish lifelong practices of public participation. Particularly if students see how their input/research is incorporated (that they can make a difference), they may be empowered be active in civic life throughout their adult lives.

Tying in opportunities for specific school projects or general curriculum can be a great way to inform entire families and communities!

Eileen
