Peter,

We could obviously get into a very lengthy discussion about all of the good points you raise. One of the issues that I absolutely agree with you on is the fact that it seems like the EPA has done very little on their own in terms of interfacing and engaging with the public here at MMR. It may have to do with the unique nature of a historically closed-off military base. That is why it has come down to the military itself to take the ball and run with it. Being the military, they are doing, I feel, the best they can, but keep in mind. The military is not, nor has it ever been, noted for being particularly pro-active. They seem to be learning though. I have been involved in environmental issues my whole life, with a BS in forestry & wildlife mgt., as a former member of the Wildlife Society, National Wildlife Federation, and National Audubon Society, as a Conservation Commission member, and with 11 years in the environmental industry, so I have had and still have many of the same concerns as you. The best thing that the EPA, military, and public can do at MMR is to work together and try to do what's right.
