  • X-topic: Outreach

Cynthia wrote that Public Education is an important aspect of Outreach. I fully agree - but would like to add that Education is not enough. Unfortunately, a lot of outreach efforts begin and end with education. We have traditionally provided information in the form of flyers, brochures and ads in various types of media. This is not enough.

In order to truly accomplish our goals we need to change behavior and encourage people to take action. This is more difficult. Public Involvement means getting involved, taking action, doing something, making a change. I would like to see much more focus on learning what motivates people to action and implementing these motivating factors.
