Thank you for such a complete description of the concerns around a focus on one test.

I would suggest going further. Testing is only one way to check on learning. I have seen far too many students of all ages do well on a test, but they are not able to use the content in a problem solving context or communitcate well through writing. I have seen learners of all ages do poorly on tests, but are amazing problems solvers, writers of poetry, designers of new science experiments.

It would better serve all of our learners if we found other better ways to assess student learning so every child has the opportunity to show us what they know and can do, and so we can better meet the needs of each learner based on this more complete assessment.
