"Who's In Charge?" is really an excellent question. In science and math classes, the teacher is in charge of course content - because there are no administrators who understand math or science and therefore, there is no one to check up on what the math or science teacher is teaching. Of course, if the teacher fails too many students, the administration will instruct the teacher (without knowing anything about the class) to dumb down the course work and grade easier. In terms of budget, the district superintendent is in charge because regardless of what is needed for student success, the super can spend the money any way he sees fit. That's why we have students in classrooms with no desk or chair (they have to sit on the floor) while the super drives his new district purchased car up to Sacramento for a meeting. WHAT WE NEED, OF COURSE, IS SOMEBODY IN CHARGE WHO HAS STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AS HIS/HER NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. WE NEED ACCOUNTABILITY AT ALL LEVELS!!!!
